Performance management is increase his performance and productivity, looks at an employee’s performance keeping in mind the present and the future, proactively manages an employee’s performance and ensures that the employee has accomplished all the goals, vision, mission and the core values of the organization.
ReplyDeletePerformance appraisal evaluates the actual performance of the employee, but it does not focus on the employee’s performance productivity, evaluates the employee’s performance based on how he has performed in the immediate past, individualistic in nature and pertains to the employee and his past performance, operational because it follows certain protocol for performance.
Both performance management and performance appraisal deal with the performance of the employees but they are two different concepts. Performance management refers to a set of activities and tasks which ensure that the employees meet their goal on time. The goal should be aligned with the organizational goals. Performance appraisal is nothing but the evaluation of the employee's performance.
ReplyDeleteA performance appraisal is a regular review of an employee's job performance. Companies use appraisals to give employees big-picture feedback on their work. They can be conducted at any given time but tend to be annual and Performance management is a corporate management technique that assists managers in monitoring and evaluating the work of their employees. The aim of performance management is to create an atmosphere in which people can perform to their full potential in order to achieve the highest-quality work in the most productive and successful manner possible.
ReplyDeleteOften in an organization, we see that the concepts of performance management and performance appraisal are used interchangeably. But little do we realize that both the concepts are very different from each other. The reason for this confusion is that both the concepts deal with evaluating performance and both come under the same umbrella term of the performance management system
ReplyDeleteThe performance appraisal process is conducted between the employee and his or her manager for the first round and then between the manager and the manager’s manager before going into the third round. The third round includes the above people as well as the HR manager but excludes the employee.
ReplyDeleteGood article. My opinion is managers should make sure that performance management systems and decisions treat employees equally, without regard to their race, sex, or other protected status.
ReplyDeleteIt’s important to recognize and reinforce strong performance in employees, identify their skill gaps and encourage improvement where needed than the performance management processes that take place throughout the year on an ongoing based on traditional annual appraisals.
